Wait at least until the next update

After installing SP2 to my XP Pro, I crashed several times with similar
problems of those who have already installed it (e.g. Norton not functioning
properly... even with the update, and messages about not enough security
enabled through the options I selected). So now SP2 is no longer on my
system.

I routinely use Black Ice Defender and have virtually no issues with that or
Norton. The security updates are much needed, but they're not as seemless as
Microsoft most likely intended. I would wait until the bugs are resolved...
and if you really want to update, do not plan any major projects with your PC
for a couples days in order to fix all the conflicts.

Norton needs to be turned of before installing xp sp2.
You might have to stop it in services.msc

SP2 is final. It was beta tested by many folks. One reviewer said 10% of
systems were incompatible. Your's must be one.

"I would wait until the bugs are resolved"
That aint gonna happen as SP2 is final.................
anyway, most of the "bugs"are down to people using the SP2
firewall..............

i don't think so, i called dell yesterday with an issue and they told me MS
is doing an update to sp2 that should come out at the end of sept.
I called MS and the tech told me that dell was right
so i am going to wait till oct and see if it is true before i go and install
this again since i did have numerous problems

If dell is saying this an Microsoft is not planning on doing this.
The dell is violating the oem agreement between Microsoft and dell

Why would MS bring out an update to SP2 if they will still be sending out
CD'S in late September on...
and the CD's will still be the same ones as now.
Lets juat watch and wait to see just what MS do if anything..............

Like so many others here i have had numerous problems installing sp2 on my
dell deminsion 8200
I just got off the phone with dell with an atapi issue i had with my cd rom
drive and Dell just told me they have had hundreds of calls from owners who
installed sp2 with a million problems.

Seems they talked to Microsoft and they told them they also have had
hundreds of phone calls. The tech told me to uninstall sp2 (which i did by
doing a system restore) and wait till MS comes out with the later version.
sp2 broke something in my sony cdrw drive and now dell is sending me a new
one because i am still on a service contract.

So if any of you haven't installed it yet maybe you should wait till MS gets
some of the bugs out and reissues it around Sept 29

Hi

I would think this would be a separate hotfix that you can apply on
top of an existing SP installation, something like this one:

Programs that connect to IP addresses that are in the loopback address
range may not work as you expect in Windows XP Service Pack 2
