I recently used the new Vista version of a WinPE cd to partition and format
a drive (using diskpart.exe) for installing XP sp2. If your not familiar
google WAIK (windows automated installation kit) and WinPE. The reason for
doing it is that I am trying out microsoft's new imaging software (imagex)
and it is 'file' as opposed to 'sector' based so you need a formatted
partition to apply the image. These are Vista deployment tools but from what
I know so far can be used to deploy XP as well. I successfully used
WinPE/imagex to capture and apply a sysprepped XP sp2 image. But I started
to think about possible issues with the file system? considering Vista's
NTFS implementation may be different than XP's? Anyone know? Is Vista NTFS
the exact same version as XP's NTFS (I think xp is version 5)? So far no
problems but I literally just did this so I'm wondering what may happen over
the next few days of usage.
