I am trying the macrium and downloaded a free setup file installed ok.
I done the linux Rescue Cd OK.
I am having a problem while trying to do the Win PE Rescu Cd,
The boot command line
C:\macrium\windows waik file\mount .......... The error message coming up
here
is " error mounting windows image file"
The image file WINPE.WIM is there. When I place this file in \mount folder
it is not accepted.
The boot command line " C:\macrium\windows waik files\mount" is automatic.
Can you please help me how to mount the image WINPE.WIM file?
When you use the Reflect Free download package from CNET, you end up with two
files. And one of the files contains the WAIK stuff. It is unpacked immediately
and installed. For example, these components are related to mounting the
..wim file later.

05/02/2014 06:47 AM 333,712 wimserv.exe
05/02/2014 06:47 AM <DIR> Servicing
The wording in the INF, makes that particular file system mount capability
appear to be transient. It is installed when needed and removed later.
I see one service listed in my Admin Tools\Services which is Macrium
branded, but that is the mounter for .mrimg files, not for .wim.
On my fully automated Macrium setup (provided by CNET installer),
the wim file that comes with Macrium is in a folder close to the tools one.

I don't know how you got to the point you're at, but without
the automation in the package working for you, it's going
to be pretty hard to complete that build operation.

WIM files can be unpacked with the later versions of 7-ZIP,
if you ever want to unpack one and examine the contents. But
that is not central to this conversation. This is only an
interesting tool, if you wanted to fully unpack one.
http://www.7-zip.org/
For example, when that 114,336,823 byte file is unpacked,
it becomes a set of four folders taking up 750,000,000 bytes
of storage. When I checked the details on one of the files
in the system area there, it was a Windows 7 build. So the
WAIK must have corresponded to a WinPE3 or WinPE3.1 one. Not
that this is important. I'm sure Macrium could be built
with several different WAIK kits. And it doesn't look
like the Macrium files have been added to the .wim at
that point either. That could be the reason for the mount,
to allow the addition of Macrium branded files to the image,
before making the ISO9660 needed for a CD.

It sounds like you're trying to do something, which may have
been done in the early days of Macrium. Back when the Linux
boot CD was "standard" and they were still working on the
WinPE one. The process now is automated, and actually
requires less downloading. I think when Macrium was introduced,
you had a 1GB download. Now the WAIK component is in the
100MB to 150MB or so range.
When I want to "Bootstrap" a copy of Macrium, on one of my
other machines, I've kept the files from the CNET download
for later usage. These might have been in my %temp% or
something. I'm not sure where they were stored, but I grabbed
a copy before they got deleted. Now, I just copy the folder
to a new machine, and run the .exe, and the installer will
unpack "pe3x86.zip" and put the files in the correct locations.
That's a lot smaller than a complete 1GB WAIK kit. This way,
I don't waste Internet bandwidth immediately getting a new
copy.

05/02/2014 06:25 AM 43,883,504 v5.2.6526_reflect_setup_free_x86.exe
Once I've completed installation with those, I can select "update"
from within Macrium, to update the software to the current
release 5 version. If Macrium changes to Release 6, I have
to stop using that kit and download a fresh kit.
I don't think I could manage to figure out how to do the
whole process, completely manually.
