A short while ago I dl a fw that changed the default w98 defrag to a me
version, closed cable connection and rebooted. I liked the program, but
have since restored my system to original and lost it. Anyone know what i
mean and url?

Thanks, but this I have already. What I need is the program that
controls the cable connection and shuts un-needed programs that
interfere with defrag process.

There was a recent thread regarding an app called GEOdisk which might be
what your thinking of (the thread created some angst because of it
apparently 'updates' the W98 defrag tool with the 98ME version).

Can't vouch for this app (nor am I making any sort of a recommendation) but
you can read about it here http://www.it-mate.co.uk

and download it here - http://www.it-mate.co.uk/downloads/GEODisk.zip

Are you confusing Diskeeper and Diskkeeper. I seem to remember that there
was some warning about the latter (two Ks). FWIW I use Diskeeper on XP and
find it excellent:

Using Google with two k's in the spelling leads you to mainly
German crack sites, and a few intentional miss-spellings to get
you to the correct site. There doesn't appear to be an existing
program that is spelled with two k's.

I've noticed threads through the years that discuss the German
government's ban on the use of Diskeeper by any gov't agency.
Although exhaustive tests have not been able to prove it, the
German gov't fears a backdoor may be built into Diskeeper that
would allow the Scientologist, who wrote the program, to steal
German secrets. They are very distrustful of 'any' cult, and
after their experience with the Nazi's, who can blame them.
Apparently German cracker's couldn't care less. :-)
