Just in case anyone else runs into that problem and wants to know what
to do:
I used my existing Win98 installation with my new Asus K8V Deluxe
Motherboard (and of course an Athlon 64) with a Gforce4 Ti4200 (NV25);
this worked ok, except that the games had slow graphics (especially
notable on Unreal Tournament, which ran at about 7.5 fps even in
low-res modes). Nothing that I tried (playing around with interrupts,
removing all PCIcards etc.) changed anything about that.
So I tried Win98SE. Same result.
Next try: WME. This solved the problem. Now UT runs smootly (at half
the refresh rate with sync enabled), and all the other games run
nicely, too.
My guess is that the VIA drivers don't work well with Win98, so this
probably affects other K8T800 boards, too.
