Hi

We cannot see public IP address within our VPN so I have
changed the registry entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Tim
e\Parameters\Type to No Sync

From my client (W2K Pro) I have rebooted and
then run a net time. It tells me the current time from my
other W2kDC in the domain NOT my PDC emulator. Is that
correct? All clients seem to respond from this same DC
including my PDC emulator.

I have tried setting it manuallly using net
time /setsntp:ip address but it still returns from my DC
non PDC emulator.

Many thanks

Simon

Ok but if I run a net time on my dc its gives the time
back from itself and if i run it from the pdc emultator it
also gives it fromt the other dc.

Where did you set those reg entries you mentioned in your
first post? Really you want your PDC emulator to have
those settings. Maybe set the reliable time source reg
entry as well. Everything else should not require the reg
entires as you want them to sync in the normal way. See
this article for the reg stuff:
KB223184.

Are you having a specific problem, or just concerned that
the time may not be synching correctly?

Hi

Thanks for your quick response.

I made that change on the PDC emulator. Do you think I
should change the reliable time source reg entry as well
then? Am I right in thinking that when I do a net time on
any DC it should say the current time on the PDC emulator?

You must have a different VPN setup if you are unable to get outside IP
addresses. If you have internet access on the same connection as your VPN
you should be able to get the time from an external source. Your dns
settings should be you internal DNS server and the the dns server should
forward to your ISP. This will allow you to forward the time sync request
to the internet. if you can't use ip address use the FQDN for example
tock.usno.navy.mil or tick.usno.navy.mil

Hope this helps
