I am getting bombed with this virus in my inbox in Outlook Express. My
anti-virus program is catching it, but I am getting email several times per
day with this virus in it. Usually, it is something supposedly being
returned which I didn't send.

Out of curiosity, can anyone tell me what this virus does if you don't catch
and delete it. I'd like to give the guy who is sending me this crap a
little more than just the virus.

Mostly what it does is make your PC act just like 'the guy who is
sending it to you'. Plus opening up all the usual back doors, and
loopholes for further nasties to exploit.

SWEN is unique (or was when it appeared) because it downloads and
uploads (without user assistance) to usenet newsgroups - uploading worm
copies, and scanning the downloaded messages (the whole thing, not just
the usual spammers 'get the header' approach) for email addresses it can
attempt to infect.

If your ISP does not support virus filtering, then you need to quit
using your real email address for Usenet posts .. even in the normally
hidden 'reply to' field.

If you run it, it causes the above described behavior to someone
else ~ in fact, to *many* someone elses.

He or she is most likely merely the previous victim.

We all feel that way about these slimeballs, but be aware that the person
who sent you a particular virus is almost never the author. More likely it
is a friend who has you on their address book, and their computer is
infected and sending copies to everyone listed there.
