Sorry if slightly OT...

I'm getting this emailed to me disguised as a MS security patch about 3 or 4
times a day.

It's annoying and the mail rules on OE6 don't seem to work (IE if... then
DON't download from server/Delete from server etc)

Anyone know how to stop getting these mails?

PS i'm with Freeserve (broadband) UK.

Consider yourself lucky. I had one account that received over 2000 messages
related to this virus over the weekend. That account was originally intended
to be a throwaway account but I ended up keeping it over the last 5 years. I
closed the account today rather than deal with the flood of spam and bounced
mail. Fortunately, my primary account hasn't been hit as hard.

If you're looking for a good spam or classification program, check out
http://popfile.sourceforge.net. I think this is one of the best and open
source. Won't prevent you from downloading spam or viruses, but does a
remarkable job of separating them from your real mail with surprisingly
little training...

OE can't delete from the server unfortunately. But you can write a rule to
mark the message as read, then delete it. I have mine set that way, and
between the rule and Norton AV, I haven't gotten infected yet (knock on
wood).

Just curious, how can you get your account closed? Seems a waste of
Freeserve space and bandwidth to keep old e-mail address active (one of my
old ones has 2k messages - haven't used it in over a year but it's still
active).

The account I was referring to was a hotmail account. There's an option in
there under member services to close the account. I don't recall exactly
what wording they use and honesty had to search for it for a while before I
found it. As far as I know when you close the account they erase all your
e-mail and bounce any new mail. I removed all my messages before closing it
anyway. They do reserve your name for 6 months, ostensibly as a way to avoid
someone else pretending to be you...

I have to say, it's like breathing clean mountain air having gotten rid of
that account (I'm sure that's a horrible metaphor). I've received all of 3
spams today. On average it's 40 - 50. It seems my primary account isn't so
bad after all. I think I may ditch my hotmail/usenet account every 6 months
or so to leave the spammers behind and possible set up a dedicated one for
announcement lists that I want to subscribe to indefinitely. I avoid using
my primary account for anything other than personal communications these
days.

I've been receiving an average of 60 messages a day - either the HTML
message disguised as being from MS or attached in email messages
disguised as "undeliverable" messages.
