have used identical software (xp) on a laptop amd pc but pc keeps showing
message stating an infection (w32 spybot followed by file access denied
messages) while laptop runs perfectly. have formatted driv of pc but as soon
as i turn on broadband modem infection occurs. have previously installed all
updates for norton 2001 and still got infection. the most annoying thing is
the amount of times i get the messages but start up fails maybe onc\e or
twice or even several times after infection but does eventually start.
sometimes get message. Why does this infection always find my pc but not
laptop. Both were formatted recently and reinstalled with identical software

Turn your firewall on.
Note norton 2001 is NOT designed for use with XP.Time to upgrade your A/V
software.

Hi,
First, as the other poster noted, your Norton 2001 isn't cutting the mustard
anymore. You need a newer product.
Second, let's not play with this virus much longer. This one may, in fact ,
be acting as a keystroke logger, and sending your info elsewhere. Fair
warning!
Go to PandaSoftware or TrendMicro and do online scans of your machine.

Thanks for the advice i am on the case. Out of interest why does my formatted
drive (pc) keep getting the virus but my laptop never has.
Again many thanks.

Hi Gerry,
I have a norton firewall that is enabled. I am wary of using sp2 or any
update as i have been warned of computer gaining problems from the update.
Also the infection shows almost as soon as i activate the modem not giving
enough time for the download

With SP2 only the problem cases get reported. Without SP2 you are
leaving yourself wide open to all types of exploits.

How old is your hardware? Are you cleaning up and leaving the worm in
System Restore? Often in these situations once a virus gets in it lets
in all kind of other nasties.

Hope this helps.
