W2k3 & XP Roaming profile errors/slow - help!

I run an internet cafe. We have only a dozen XP pro computers, but over
2500 user accounts in our AD domain.

Logins for *some* of the users can take over 5 minutes. Others take 1-2
minutes. There is minimal information on the desktop.

The system has been working fine, the xp systems are managed with
policies and ALL users are create the same way (programatically)

Would appreciate any insights!

The workstations are all static IP's, the server DOES have DNS and
everthing points to it.

Also - anyone know how to remove accounts that haven't been used for a
set time?

Thanks,

Geoff

To answer your second question first:
In Server 2K3, you can create a Stored Query in Users & Computers. Tell it
you want a user query, and in the bottom left corner is a box for "Days
since last logon". You create a query to pull the people not logged on in
the last X days, then select and delete them from there.

First question:
Make sure that you are not storing too much information if there is a
roaming profile. You may want to consider the desktop security templates to
restrict access then define a GPO to kill local profiles. The deploy a
mandatory profile to standardize the load times.

If the problem is not in the profiles and the information passed to the
clients, then it is probably in the naming. Check your DNS and start
looking at traffic patterns from there.
