My system won't boot. I get to the splash screen and it
just sits there. I don't have an ERD. Can I run set-up and
reinstall win2k? Will it delete my files? I started to but
a message came up that the my documents folder will be
deleted. I have folders under my documents that I can't
loose. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

You can still try a repair install without an ERD. Use the fast repair
option. W2K keeps a copy of critical parts of the registry from the original
install. I would first try to boot into safe mode or use last known good
configuration option that appears when you select F8 during boot up. If safe
mode works, you probably have a corrupt or incompatible driver on some device.
If you do reinstall, do NOT select format option, but instead you can install
into existing winnt folder and delete existing installation. I believe you are
asked to select L to do this. You will have to reinstall your applications, but
your data files should be available unless they are EFS encrypted. If you go
that route, you will have to search the documents and settings folder for your
"old" profile that will contain your my documents folder. You could also put
your drive into another computer running W2K or XP and copy your data files from
there. --- Steve
