SFC Dereck Vines

Upon changing the hard drive on a Dell Latitude laptop,
the system gets a cusor in the upper left corner of the
screen. The system boots through the dell boot screen and
acts like it reconizes the printer, but will not go any
further. There is also nothing in the winnt file. I would
like to do a repair but I don't have the recovery disk and
can not remember how to repair in console mode. If I do a
re-install, will there be a chance that the format will
not wipe out all information?

Thanks
Dereck Vines

A format will wipe all information from the hard disk, but if you are only
reinstalling Windows over an existing installation without a format then
your data will still be available. Your Dell install disks should be able to
help you there!

You said you changed the harddrive, the operating system resides on the
harddrive. Your previous operating system and software is on the
previous harddrive. Until you install an operating system and software
