After upgrading to win 2000 pro on an 800mhz Athlon with
256mb , when you go to shutdown machine reboots. All win
updates installed. does not have roxio software. Have been
through bios settings no change.Went throgh power
settings ,office and norton installed

First, make sure you have the most recent BIOS
for your system. Early ACPI boards would cause these
kinds of problems.

Otherwise, you can try reinstalling Win2K without the ACPI
support (which is no big deal). Put the Win2K CD in,
select "upgrade", and when the machine reboots to the
real-mode setup and prompts for "F6...", you press F7.
You won't get any message, but ACPI support will be disabled.
Let the rest of the setup run (you won't lose any data or programs),
and then repply Win2K service packs and updates etc.

Do not under any circumstances try simply changing
the computer type in device manager from ACPI to
standard. You'll end up with an unbootable machine.
