I have a server with W2K Pro on it - for a long time it
was used as the DHCP server and connected as a wired
connection. I bought a wireless router and hooked that up
and connected the server to it with a regular cable. I
have a laptop running WinXP Pro, this is now
wireless...for a long time it ran fine on the wired
connection - never a problem. Then I added the wireless
network - it worked ok until I updated the server to SP4
and added the latest security patches. Since then I can't
see or access shares on the server, but the server can
see and access all the computers on my network. I don't
know what is wrong, but even direct connecting to the
server doesn't work to see the shares. I have made sure
that the user names and passwords are all there - all
appears to be ok -- but nada for access. I have to use
FTP to get anything that I used to share. HELP PLEASE!! I
have 3 weeks left to get this working before its going to
be a critically needed working network...

When you attempt to map the drives what errors do you get?

If I do Start - Run \\servername\folder I get "The
network path was not found." If I try to do it through My
Network Places I get "Mshome is not accessible. You might
not have permission to use this network resource. Contact
the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions. The network path was not found." I
have tried using MSHOME, WORKGROUP, and a custom one to
see if I can access it. I do change both pc's workgroup
name.

Do you have any firewall software etc? Since you aren't in a larger
environment, you are probably going to be broadcasting for the other
servers. Based on the error messages it's like you can't get there. Try
this:

On the W2K systems boot into Safe Mode with networking, and see if the
behavior changes. We are making some assumptions as well. Can everyone ping
each other? What are our IP's?
