I have two PC's running Win2k (SP4)that I have connected
via crossover cable. Both are members of "Workgroup"
workgroup. Both log onto Windows with same user id and
password. IP addresses are 192.168.0.x on the same subnet.
Both have TCP/IP and netbuei protocols loaded. I can ping
each machine from the other (Sometimes I get 25% loss). I
have shared resources on each PC (created new shares other
than C$) and given permission to "Everyone". The problem
is that when I try to copy files from one machine to the
other I get a message "Cannot copy xxxxxxxx; the specified
network name is no longer valid" Can someone please
explain what this means and why I can't copy files between
these two computers.
Thanks in advance

Go out and buy a crossover cable. Also make sure the 2 NICs match in brand.

You are connected via cross over cables and getting upto 25% packet loss -
that indicates bad hardware to me. Please swap out the network cards on one
or both machines as well as the crossover cable. The error you are getting
indicates that the file copy process was terminated (most likely because of
packet loss).
