I have installed Windows 2000 Professional evaluation copy
some time ago. Since then I got license copy of the os and
installed it. I was under the impression that the license
copy would overwrite the eval, but now the eval wallpaper
comes up with the eval build 2195 displays just before the
license wallpaper desktop shows. If that is not bad enough
I receive a window that states that I must purchase a
license copy of the os. Also the machine reboots itself
every hour because of the overlay in os's. I looked in the
boot.ini and the registry key but could not find a clue of
the problem. How can I solve the problem short of
reformating. Thanks

Hi Ralph,

Try the following:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks), and
then click OK.

3. Locate and click the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

4. In the right pane, double-click PaintDesktopVersion.

5. Type "0" (without the quotation marks) in the "Value data" box, and
then click OK.

6. Click Exit on the Registry menu.

7. Log off, and then log on to the computer.
