Hi all
I have a network with 4 computers, but since the problem
concerns only two of those I might as well forget about
the others.
There is a laptop, originally on W2K, and a desktop
originally on Win98. Before I started working on the
Win98, I sent all the data across the network to the W2K
laptop - no problem whatsoever. I then put a new HD and
also a new operating system in the desktop, it all works
fine, all the drivers are installed, internet etc is no
problem. However, both machines cannot open
the "neighbouring computers" icon anymore. I get an error
message saying that the workgroup cannot be accessed and
that the list of the servers of the workgroup is down
(this is a bit of a rough translation as my computers run
German software)
I desperately need to get this fixed and I have no clue
what the problem is! Any help is greatly appreaciated!
Some more info on my network:
- 5 PCs on a hub which has an uplink via a cable modem
- ALL are in the same workgroup
- There are folders accessible to all on each one of them
- ALL the network cards work fine
- No assigned IP addresses - I really did just plug each
machine in the hub and it worked fine
- Guest accounts are activated
- I tried with and without firewall -> same result
- TCP/IP is installed on all of them
- NetBios over TCP/IP as well
Kind regards
Helen
