Hi all,

I'm having a problem with a W2K/IIS5 server rebooting
intermittingly over the past 2-1/2 weeks. Based upon
snmp monitoring the I/O of the NIC, and comparing it to
the uptime reports, the abnormal reboot coincides to high
inbound/outbound traffic. I have a sniffer on it as of
this point, but was hoping if anyone out there can
suggest some ways to finding out the root cause here.
The server is running SP4, patched up to date as of 9-12-
03 with MS0-039. Also ran a diagnostic on the memory and
CPUs, and they are showing OK. Event logs show nothing
unusual, and nothing really stands out in the web logs.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

No...it's an OmniTech Fortris server. They are a company
out of WI that deal mainly with the educational market.

We had a similar experience. However, it was because of
couple of fried capacitors on the motherboard. When we
installed a new motherboard everything was back to normal.
Did you visually check all your hardware boards?

No...just ran a software diagnostic on the memory and CPU
at this time, and they came out clean. We did replace
the RAID controller, as there were intermittent errors in
the System log, but that was not it. We have down time
this Sunday, and I'll power it off and visually inspect
this. Thanks for the info!

Hi again,

It turns out that the problem was either with the onboard
NIC or possibly the motherboard itself. Our server
vendor replaced the motherboard over a week ago, and have
not had a single reboot. Thanks for everyone's help!
