W2K freezes on file transfer

Anyone know why my w2k (sp4) machine locks up during file
transfer? I'm using a linksys router to access the
internet as well as to network my 2 pc's and laptop
together. When I try to transfer large files, or when I
use Kazaa, my w2k machine freezes. Any thoughts???
 
The NIC is most likely bad. Try a different brand.

The router could not cause the freeze. A persona firewall could, disable it to
test.

Thanks for your help. This will be the 3rd NIC card I'm
going to be replacing. I'll try formating first. Never had
this problem before.
