W2K fails post after moving HD to new CPU

Known good working Win2K hard disk moved to new motherboard
(P2-200 to AMD 2600+) and won't even POST.

Was told issue was similar to what I've heard about XP
being moved from one CPU to another. Serializing the CPU
of something, but I've never heard of this on Win2K.

What do I need to do?
Thanks in advance,
CHrisK

No software logic to this problem, since it never even
POST, it must be hardware...right?

Normally, unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the
old one (same chipset, IDE controllers, etc), you'll most likely need
to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at the
very least (and don't forget to reinstall any service packs and
subsequent hot fixes):

.
Thanks Bruce
It did in fact turn out to be MergeIDE.reg that resolved
the issue.

This usually happens because the OS expects the old ide controller. The
cure is to boot using the old motherboard and change ide controller to
microsoft standard - the disk will then boot with the new motherboard and
detect and install newly detected hardware.
