I installed IE 6.0 and found it to have too many problems.
I then uninstalled it thinking it would roll back to IE
5.5; however, now I can not even get to my desktop. After
logging in I immediately get "The instruction
at "0x711225ca" referenced memory at "0x00000000. The
memory could not be read." I can either choose OK or
Cancel - doesn't matter which I still get a blank desktop.
I've search the Microsoft Knowlegebase which suggests a
number of things, but nothing so far has worked. Any
suggestions will be appreciated!

I'm currently working on this problem as well, could you
email me at the above address (just remove the %). I would
like you to run a regmon.exe program from sysinternals.com
and then see if you are getting the registry keys with
BUFOVRFLOW as well. Here is my problem in detail and
probably very much likes yours:

////////////////////////////////////////////////
After installing IE6 SP1 (when I installed Visual Studio
..NET), in explorer.exe I get this message (with changing

memory positions):
////////////////////////////////////
Application popup: explorer.exe - Application Error : The
instruction at "0x01edb710" referenced memory at

"0x01edb710". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
////////////////////////////////////
I have used various programs to try and figure out what is
going on.

In Filemon.exe it happens after trying to access:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat

In regmon.exe I noticed that there are BUFOVRFLOW when
getting these registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints\D
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints\D\_GVI
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints\F\_GVI

This memory could not be read only happens when I
double-click the My Computer in explorer's folder's view. It

happens only when I double-click it or press the plus sign.
So basically it only happens when it has to show the

drives in the left side. But if this error occurs, I can
still use explorer afterwords and just not press OK,

but, of course, once you press OK it will terminate the
program.

This is about as much information as I can find, any ideas?
