Hi

I've got a single w2k domain, split over 3 sites,
connected on as a wan.

Site 1; DC1 (GCC) and DC2, subnet 192.168.1.x, DC1 DNS,
WINS, DHCP

Site 2; DC3 (GCC), subnet 192.168.2.x - DNS, WINS, DHCP

Site 3; DC4 (GCC), subnet 192.168.2.x - DNS, WINS, DHCP

I have replication between the DCs and can ping etc.

The only problem I have is that say when browsing the
network on PC in site 1, I can see DC1 and 2 but not
DC3/4. Basically I can see info on other subnets.

I have created a static mapping in Wins on say site 1 for
the DCs 3/4 but no joy.

Can anyone advise please??

Thanks in advance.

All machines would need to use your WINS server. Don't bother with the
static mappings. Just let it happen automatically and you'll eventually find
that the Browser service will populate network neighborhood.

Thanks for your reply.

The WINS on DC1 in site 1 is setup to replicate to the DCs
in site 2 and 3, and this seems ok. If I look in WINs on
DC1 for active registrations I can see all 4 DCs - BUT
they do not show up in the network browse - only the DCs
on the local subnet appear.

Any ideas??

Thanks in advance.

Ok, you have 3 WINS servers. In each server, use it's own IP address twice
in WINS tab. That insures a number of things.

Assuming replication parnters are set to default as push/pull, that's fine.

In each subnet, point to the WINS server in that subnet.

Do you have a firewall between the sites?

Otherwise, this usually just works.

I think the problem was that I had recently changed IPs of
some servers and WINS seems to remeber the old IPs.

I have gone into WINs on each DC running WINs and re-setup
the replication partners. BUT the problem is now when
forcing a WINs replication i'm getting the
error 'Replication with a nonconfigured partner is not
allowed'.

Sorry if my changes mislead you, but any ideas on this?

Thanks

Make sure you have the correct IPs of the WINS partners. Do it by IP instead
of name. Search thru the records and make sure the IPs are correct to the
names, if not, delete them. Same with DNS records. It just sounds like a
simple name issue. If you want, delete ALL records and let it rebuild it
from scratch. Doesn;t take that long at all. I;ve done it before when I
wasn';t sure where the problem was, especially after changing IPs.
