W2K Crashes on Initial Boot after "Starting Windows 2000"

I recently insalled a new hard drive. I partitioned an
NTFS active partition, flashed my BIOS with the latest
BIOS, and defeated the DMI Pool Data hang.

I can copy the files from the CD-ROM to C: just fine.
Then on the first boot from the hard drive I get to
the "Starting Windows 2000" bit and the white line goes
across the screen.... then nothing. It does not seem to
help to hit F8 and start in safe mode. Any help would be
appreciated.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Are you sure it will help to make the four floppies?

I sucessfully created a partition and went through the
copy file stage of the setup from the I386 directory on
the CD-ROM.

Can I make them from the Microsoft website?

Thanks!!

* That wasn't the implication here.

* How are you installing? Best to boot the CD_Rom to start your install.

* Not necessary. Read my reply again.

I used a windows 98 startup disk and accessed the W2K CD-
Rom. I ran winnt.exe from the I386 directory which
proceeded to copy all of the files to my newly formatted
and partitioned C drive. Then the setup restarted my PC.
I got to the "Starting Windows 2000" point, and the white
stripe went across my screen... then nothing. Just a
black screen with a white stripe.

I could not start from the CR-ROM at first, at least with
my award 2.2 Bios. I have since upgraded to award 3.5
Bios.

If you can't boot the CD-Rom, then you'll want to boot from the setup disks
and proceed as described earlier.
