in the tcpip-setting of your win98 computer you have to enter the win2k
server as gateway....

well if both pcs are accessing the internet at the same time, the w2k one
has always full speed because thats the pc which is dialing in. the only way
you can manage that both pcs are equal is to buy a router, but maybe, if you
just want to browse some websites on your second/w98 pc, try a proxy server,
that might speed up a little... try this one: www.janaserver.de its one of
the best i know, and: its for free ;-)

hi
I have connected win2k computer and win98 computer throught a hub
my purpose is to set win2k as a server and win98 as client

I have enable the internet connection sharing in my win2k and it resets the
network adpater address to 192.168.0.1 in win2k computer
and the network adapter in win98 has address 192.168.0.131(automatically
obtained)
In win98 computer, I enter the DNS server address : 192.168.0.1

I connect the win2k to DSL, but how come I can't connect win98 computer to
internet
throught win2k computer?
is there anything that I miss? or I did it wrong ?

any suggestion will be appreciated
thanks

Lam

That is not the correct DNS server address. You should obtain that from
your ISP. Once you have the ip address, make sure you can ping it from the
Win98 pc, then enter it as the DNS address. That will allow you to get to
all sites on the internet.

Try removing all that custom DNS stuff from the windows 98, because what
would happen is the w98 looks for a DNS server on the 2000 (which you aren't
running) and has to wait for that to timeout before looking for another DNS
server

| thanks
| I can now connect win98 to internet throught win2k computer
| however, the speed is so so so slow, guess even slower than 28k modem
| and it seems that I could only go msn.com....so weird
| and in my win2k computer, the speed is normal dsl speed
| is anything else that I missed?
