I see a lot of notes here about SP4 rollout ... something new ???
What's different about " this" SP4 rollout as opposed to "the old" SP4 from a year ago ???
AND if there is difference, why is it not SP5 ??

I run W2000 and just did windowsupdate - no new updates for me .

Dave,

I did check it and the article is dated 9/2005 and speaks about the "problems AFTER installing Win2000 SP4 Rollout"
I'm still in the dark .... if SP4 came out a year ago and was fine since, why are they now coming out with "Rollup 1 for Microsoft
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4" . Is it for people that have been having problems for the past year with the LAST SP4 install ? Is
that it ? If so, I've never had an issue with SP4 and assumed that others didn't either.

It is because SP4 is out of date. There have been well over a
hundred hotfixes - mostly security related - released since SP4.
These were "rolled-up" into the "Rollup" package.

If you have SP4 systems and you have been keeping them up date,
then the rollup package is probably not much use to you.

However, if you are (re)installing W2K on a system, then
installing SP4, then the rollup can save you a considerable
amount of time and dramatically cut down on the number of reboots
required compared to installing SP4 and then installing all of
the post-SP4 hotfixes through either WindowsUpdate or using the
AutoUpdate.

OK , thanks.
1. I'm surprised that a lot of people are installing W2k, but
2. I'm VERY surprised that MS cares about them to write a new package. Generally I've found their attitude to be - that's last
years' product - too bad for you.
