Hi,

I have three NT servers a the moment on a single domain
(one pdc and two bdc). I would like to join my new W2000
servers to this existing domain and thereafter upgrade on
of the new W2000 server to the PDC.

My existing NT PDC does run Exchange Server 5.5 but I'm
sure it can continue to run on this server if it was
downgraded to a BDC.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

Scott

Remove Win 2k from the new server and install NT 4.0 on it as a BDC while
connected to your existing network. Promote to PDC and upgrade to Win 2k and
AD.

A Win 2k server can ONLY be a PDC emulator (by upgrading the NT 4.0 PDC) or
a member server on a NT 4.0 network.

In order to upgrade your domain to Win2000 you will need to upgrade a
machine w/ the PDC role. The following article has more information.

Most people in the situation you described install a new NT4 BDC. Sync it
w/ your current PDC. Once that is complete transfer the PDC role to the
new machine. Perform the Win2K upgrade on the new machine.
