Hi,
I have already posted this to microsoft.public.win2000.general but
decided to post to a few more groups to try and get further
suggestions. Sorry if you have already read the post.
I have an IBM ThinkPad R30 with W2000 NT Professional installed. The
OS files are installed on the hard disk and I do not have system CDs.
The system does not have a floppy drive and the CD is a read only. I
have an external CDRW but I have never been able to create a recovery
disk on it.
About two weeks ago I got the inaccessible_boot_device 0x0000007B
problem. IBM told me to run the recovery problem which wipes the hard
disk and reinstalls the operating system. In the process I lost
everythink on the disk.
The problem has now re-occured. It occurs on bootup. I have not
installed any new hardware recently or made any hardware changes.
After a failed boot up I sometimes get the following message:
"invalid RFID serialization information area or bard crc2"
The major software change consisted of adding all the SPs and patches
from the Microsoft website upon reinstallation of the OS.
F8 safe mode or last good configuration do not work.
I really, really don't want to reinstall everything and lose all the
stuff on the disk and I am wondering if there is any work around to
the problem.
For example: can I buy the W2000 or XP CDs and upgrade or repair from
those disks?
Can I boot to the c:\ with networking support and copy the important
files across to another computer?
I also have a Thinkpad 600X can the hard disks be swapped and if so
would that make any difference?
Thanks for any help.
Regards
Emmett
