I installed a new hard drive ("D") and would like 2
install 2000Pro on it. How can I direct the installation 2
that drive? Also, after that's done, I would like 2 have
the option 2 b able 2 boot to either drive. Whose
boot.ini file do I edit (98SE or 2000Pro) and what command
line should be added? Thanks in advance.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts. When you get to the point, choose the unallocated space on drive1
for the install.

(note: try typing in English the next time for user readability
enhancement.)

Sorry about that. After 2000 is installed, how do I edit
the boot.ini file so that upon boot, I can decide W98 or
W2000?

Thanks in advance,

Not necessary. Windows 2000 setup will create the bootloader for you. (this
assumes you didn't do any drive swapping)

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "drive swapping", but
here's the scenario. Originally one drive "C" w/98E;
installed new hard drive, now designated "D" [of course,
CD is "E"]. Would like to install W2000. I tried this
before and when the screen appeared asking where to
install 2000, I changed WINNT to D:\WINNT. When asked to
restart, there were two options as to where to boot: 1.
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Setup or 2.
Microsoft Windows 98. When I select #1, received
message "Setup cannot continue because CD was not
distributed with computer". At that point, I was unable
to do anything else but CTRL-ALT-DEL. When message
reappears, I can only select W98. This is why I'm
restarting the process. When I tried the 3 boot disks,
it states it's copying files. THIS MADE ME NERVOUS
BECAUSE I'M THINKING IT 'S COPYING THE FILES TO MY "C"
DRIVE -- which is what I don't want. Please keep in mind
that "C" (W98SE) is my boot drive (Primary, Master)
and "D" is Secondary, Master. Thanks again in advance!

(note: if it's an OEM install CD-Rom from another computer then this install
is not legal and probably won't work anyway.)
