Vuescan won't write icc file

I thought I would post this to save time for someone else who might
have the same (dumb) problem.

For the life of me, I couldn't get Vuescan to profile my scanner using
a target. I followed the recipe in the Vuscan manual, but nothing was
written out.

It turns out that the string in the box (under the Color tab) labeled
"Scanner ICC profile" pointed to a non-existant directory, so Vuescan
was silently failing. The ultimate problem behind this is that Vuescan
puts up the wrong type of dialog box when you are profiling a scanner.

When you want to use an icc profile, you want to open an existing file,
but when you are profiling a scanner you want to write to a new file.
Unfortunately, even after choosing "Scan task: profile scanner,"
Vuescan always puts up a the first type of dialog for selecting the icc
file, even though in this case you are writing a new file, not reading
from an existing file.

Solution: create a file with the extension ".icc" wherever you want the
new file to be created. Vuescan will happily overwrite the file without
asking permission. Or, just type a string into the silly little box.

PS--this might only be a problem under Mac OS, Ed might have used the
correct dialogs under Windows, but I can't tell.

It sounds like a problem I was having too. Perhaps there should be two
different paths to avoid confusion here.
