In short: Both are worth the money, quality is comparable, features
aren't. VS is cheaper than SF particularly if you have more than one
scanner (film and flat bed).

Imaging Resource has a fresh review on Vuescan:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/SOFT/VUE/VUE.HTM
incl. a little comparison between VS and SF.

SilverFast is generally considered the best scanner program. However, don;t
give up on the program that came with your scanner to begin with, or the
option of simply making all your edits in your image editing program. I've
done it both weays and frankly see no real benefit to editing oin the
scanner program at all. I simply scan for the largest file, then size & edit
PS CS.

If you're using a Minolta scanner, Silverfast. But get to know the
Minolta software first - you can do a lot with it.

Otherwise, try out =Vuescan for yourself and see whether you like it.
I don't. You might.

If you drive a manual shift car and don't use airconditioning or a
furnace... You might like vuescan. If you know what I mean!

Doug, please don't compare the art of scanning to driving a car! For me,
driving a car is not that important. I am not getting paid to drive, nor do
I talk about how good my drive from home to work was, I just got there
somehow. People who are judged on how well they drive their car -like
Michael Schumacher- do not use airconditioning or automatic gear change.
They use their personal skills to obtain best results. The same goes for
scanning. If you are proud of your photo's, want to get good results, show
them to your family, then you are not just scanning photo's somehow. Instead
you want to use your skills and experience to produce outstanding, unique
photo's and use your creativity, be able to tweak every parameter. Don't say
automatic is good enough!

Many consider SilverFast to be superior, but it is seriously expensive. Your
licence will be good for only one scanner (a bizarre SilverFast 'feature').

Google on as well.

I have written a review of the VUESCAN program on my website
http://www.gnyman.com
Please read it if you like - it is a very good program and I do prefer
it over Silverfast for most applications.
