Vuescan upgrading problem

My current version is 7.6.26, my serial says "Professional Edition"
and I have unlimited free upgrades. I'd like to upgrade to the current
version. I've downloaded and run the executable, and can run the new
(7.6.82) program. It tells me I need to update my serial# and takes me
to the purchase page at hamrick.com. I'm not sure why, or if, I really
need a new serial#? What's the process supposed to be?

Also, Vuescan now takes like 20-40 seconds to open, and almost as long
to _close_! It wasn't like this before. Anyone know what's up with
that?

Thanks!

Peace,
Sanaka

Because some people forged serial numbers, Ed had to disable them. Just go
through the procedure as indicated and you'll receive a new serial no. at no
charge.

After 56 new sub versions, some features were added, and new hardware and OS
checks were implemented, any of which may cause the delay you observed. The
20-40 seconds do seem longer than what I experience, but that may be due to
different hardware. Maybe there is other hardware slowing VueScan down.

One thing that can cause delays in starting up is if a PIE scanner
(Pacific Image Electronics) used to be installed, but is powered off.
It looks like that when VueScan asks the PIE library to check for
the scanner being attached, that this takes quite some time.

The solution is to remove the PIE software.

Also, sometimes using a USB connection to an Epson 2450 will cause
startup delays (I haven't figured out why). A solution is to switch
to the Firewire cable.
