Batch scan has stopped working.

I am using a Nikon Coolscan V and running Vuescan on a Linux PC.

I am trying to scan a 4 fram film strip. I run batch scan with
list mode set to 1-4.

When I run the preview it does the scan and I seel all the frames
on the screen as it scans them. However, after the scanning is
done I can't view the previews. When I change the frame number
the screen doesn't change - it always shows the last frame.

This used to work - what could have happend to break it?

You didn't say which VuScan version, but I'm using 8.1.1 with an
LS-5000 and I can run preview in the batch, or the actual scan in
batch.

In both cases I can step back through the individual frames. In the
case of scan, I can look at the scanned images, or the preview images.

I'm wondering how much memory you have available for the scan and
preview images and at what resolution you are scanning? You might be
running out of allocated memory?

I found the problem.

In the Prefs. section there is s setting for refresh delay. If this is set
to zero then the display never refreshes. Setting it to a non-zero value
made everything work again.

It refreshes as soon as you press the associated key (Ctrl+E on
windows). The manual provides additional info...

Preview in batch mode is misbehaving with these latest versions, IF
you have that refresh delay set to 0 (manual with <ctrl> e update
only). In older versions it worked, now it doesn't. Ed Hamrick is
communicating with me regarding a cropping problem, and he say's this
(0 setting of refresh) is indeed the problem, the cause of missing
preview images.

From his email, I believe he means to delete this capability in future
versions. If this is the case, a bit of a disappointment.

No problem here, works as ever (v8.1.1)

I wouldn't mind if refresh was almost real time (like in photoshop
preview f.e.), but as long as it lasts a few seconds it would be very
annoying to have to wait after each change. And no: refresh delay is no
solution...
