for lack of better words - Vuescan seems to dislike daisy chained scanners.
Scanners vanish, or behave strangely or scans are very dark.
Un-daisy chaining solves the problem.

Is this generally known problem?

thanks

Is this generally known problem?

No. I have a Minolta 5400 daisy chained through the FireWire port of
my Plextor DVD-burner and it works without problem.

If you use USB chances are the problem is known - it's inherent in
USB.

I have film and flatbed scanners daisy chained on SCSI, no probs with VS.

What do you mean daisy chain USB? Like with hub to another hub?

Does FireWire daisy chain like SCSI, by the way? Just device to device?

Yes and no. Theoretically you could daisy chain using USB just the way
you do it with SCSI (in ye olden days ...) as long as certain
parameters, like cable length, are adhered to.

The biggest problem is, TMK, that some USB devices use up all the
energy they get through USB. Scanners usually don't have this trouble
as they come with their own power cords, but I have yet to see a
really successful daisy chain with USB.

As you point out, (active) hubs could perhaps do it, but still ...

Yes.

Firewire works essentially the same as SCSI, only with less hassle or
limitations.

Well, another problem is that there's only one USB plugin in USB devices.
So nothing to daisy chain *from*, eh?
So it is indeed only theoretical :)
Yes.

Thanks for that, Dierk. I have never been sure, since I still haven't
used my first FireWire device yet.
