I realize the "how to scan half frame negatives" question gets asked
and re-answered often -- I've read the backlog, try to keep up as
VueScan changes (grin). It is getting better
But, VueScan wants a fixed spacing; the camera doesnt' give one.
Fundamentally, the film camera varies a bit in how far apart the images
fall on the filmstrip, so setting any one number, while it works for a
while, eventually gets off enough to start missing the edges.
Can VueScan identify a bar of unexposed film (the same color as the
unexposed leader used to set the film base color)? Using the actual
(lack of) image content rather than the estimated distance to mark the
edges of a frame?
Has anyone found a way to get VueScan to show three or more half-frame
images at once in a Preview, so there is always at least one complete
image that can be selected?
Ideally, of course, I wish I could put the film strip, uncut, into the
slot of the Nikon scanner, open the exit hatch at the back side, and
get VueScan to simply crunch through taking every image, letting the
film spool out at the back on the pricey takeup reel Nikon sells.
