Hi, Bruce --
Thanks for taking the time to respond!

First a question.
Are you attempting to =individually= colour balance 4 negatives in the
strip and =then= batch scan?
If so, I believe you will be disappointed.
No, I was selecting an image (#3, say) from a set of four and color
correcting to that image. My intent was that these color settings
carry through for all the images.
I understand the purpose of "lock image colour" is to carry one set of
colour balance settings over several images shot under similar light. So
you balance the first image of a sequence, then batch scan the series -
all with the same corrections.
That is what I wanted to do. BUT -- and here is where I think Vuescan
is throwing me -- images #2-4 were inside shots. Image #1 was taken
outdoors at a balloon race: there are two balloons and lots of blue
sky. Despite color correcting to image #3 and doing ALL the workflow
lock-downs to get the color set, Vuescan REPEATEDLY scanned images 2-4
with a deep blue cast. The previews looked fine, yet the scans were
crap. And I couldn't get Vuescan to do anything else (after 3 or 4
tries) and I finally had to resort to "Auto levels" to get any kind of
reasonable scan.
It seemed that Vuescan didn't like all the blue sky in the negatives
and many of my scans of the balloon race were questionable. I had
hoped that by locking the image colors with an indoor color balance, I
could get correct scans of the balloon race - the balloons/sky image
#1 in the preview looked really good when I did this and that was the
scan I wanted --- and COULDN'T GET! (grrrrr!
You then apply final colour correction if needed in your image editor.
If I have misunderstood what you are trying to do, let me know.
PS - the individual crop settings are carried forward and I think it
would be useful if Vuescan remembered individual balance settings, but Ed
did not think so when I suggested it once before.
Yes, it would be nice to do this, but I haven't even been able to
figure out how to individual crop each image in a batch scan. I've
heard Vuescan can do this, but I haven't been able to do it. It looks
like whenever I change one crop box, they ALL change and that is the
scan crop I get. Can you help me with this one?
