VUESCAN HELP: is this the right group, question on film base settings

Would this be the right group to obtain advise on using Vuescan?

The question concerns using INPUT/LOCK EXPOSURE and INPUT/LOCK FILM BASE COLOR
when using C41 films such as Fuji NPH & NPS. I always seem to get too pinkish
a cast on skin tones.

thanks

This would be the right (only?) place.

Using the advanced workflow is a good start. I assume you are scanning
the unexposed leader.
Now try shooting a neutral target under flash/mid-day lighting and use
that to set the white balance manually (right-click). I've done that
to good effect with NPH and my Canoscan FS4000US.

Would you kindly be a bit more specific about right click setting the white
balance? Is the color at manual or automatic or ???

thanks

When you right click on a neutral part of the image, Vuescan then uses
that to manually set the white balance. Look at the color tab (be sure
to have the advanced options visible) to confirm how this works.
Even a white piece of paper shot under flash will get you in the right
ballpark.

The advanced workflow as previously said is definitely the best way to
use Vuescan. Assuming your image has both blacks and whites you should
be able to set sensible end points for red, green, and blue in the
histogram.

If the image also contains quite a lot of grey you should find the
curves overlap reasonably well and hence have no colour cast. Try just
selecting a small colourless area when setting the end points.

When scanning Fuji Sensia I found that none of the Fuji film settings
gave me
good colours. I found by selecting some of the Kodak settings I got a
better match but lower contrast. Having learnt more about Photoshop I
have decided that this is a better places to correct the colour balance
errors and contrast.
