Vuescan dust removal on FS4000 broken?

I finally bought a Canon FS4000US last week for 35mm and APS
scanning. I was pointed at Vuescan as being a good solution for batch
scanning and duly downloaded version 8.4.14 for testing.

But, as far as I can tell, the dust removal feature is not working. I
understand that this is a recurring problem with Vuescan.

Anyone know the latest version in which this was working correctly?

Depends what you mean by "correctly". With my Minolta Scan Elite 5400,
I've never been satisfied with Vuescan's cleaning, It's my experience
that the Minolta software with ICE does a much more thourough and
seamless job. Haven't checked Vuescan's cleaning of late, though.

I used to give it a try every time the "what's new" description
included mention of improved cleaning, but gave up after a while. It's
a great program, I use it for part of my workflow, but do my actual
scanning with MInolta software and ICE, and then scan-from-disk the
output through Vuescan.

I'm sticking with 8.3.75. Email me and I'll send a copy to you. IR
works perfectly for slides (better than FARE) but less than perfectly
for negatives. Hint- for color negatives lock exposure and set IR
exposure to 3 and only use the heavy cleaning setting.

I tried 8.4.12 with my FS4000 a little while back, and can report that
dust cleaning is NOT working properly with that version. I would be
interested to know if anyone tried 8.4.06 and found it to work - that
is the most recent version which claimed "Fixed problem with infrared
cleaning on Canon FS4000". For reference, I am still using 8.3.07.
