Vuescan: B&W color space profiles added ?

Of course a bit of a contradiction.

To create a nicer workflow between B&W film scanned, edited
and quad printed with Roy Harrington's QTR program (Mac, PC
and Linux) it would be nice to have two extra color space ICC
profiles added to the internal list of Vuescan: QTR RGB-Lab
and QTR Gray-Lab. Both are made by Roy Harrington. Both
profiles are pruned ICC color space profiles that only have
the Lab perceptual greyscale kept and that have no color
branches anymore. There are several advantages in the use of
the profiles + a CMS for monitor preview, editing and in the
conversion to the two ICC printer profiles for QTR. The Lab
curve is better than using a 2.2 gamma as it gives a more
perceptual adaption and that perceptual aadaption is kept in
the B&W print by two printer profiles, one for matte and the
other for photo (gloss) paper.

The QTR RGB-Lab is a color space that can be used with neutral
RGB Tiff files when B&W film is scanned in RGB mode. The QTR
Gray-Lab could be used with greyscale Tiff files when B&W film
is scanned in greyscale mode. The choice of the QTR RGB-Lab
space could create the function use the QTR Gray-Lab space for
greyscale scans like one gets 2.2 Gamma in a greyscale scan
with the selection of AdobeRGB.

As Vuescan doesn't allow the user to add color spaces this
message becomes a request to Mr. Hamrick. A similar request to
Mike Chaney of Qimage already resulted in adaptions of Qimage
(and the profiles). Together with Roy Harrington and Marti
Maria of LCMS some issues are solved so Qimage behaves in a
similar way to the Photoshop CS in the conversion to the
printer profiles etc. Not all flaws are taken out yet but the
space profiles are alright.

Since Ed Hamrick no longer follows this newsgroup, you may better email
him directly.

BTW, BW profiles seem a nice thing to add, so good luck!
