Vuescan and Nikon 4000 problem

Occasionally I get an error when I use Vuescan. Clicking on preview or Scan
the message "scanner not ready" appears but I have the slide in the feeder
and under the Input tab the 4000 shows up. If I open Nikonscan I can scan
the image (with NS)
What causes that and how may I resolve it? Thanks for any help

I get this occasionally with the SF-200 auto feeder, both with VueScan and
NikonScan--it seems to have something to do with where the scanner (or feeder)
thinks it was when it finished the last scan. (It always happens if it tried
to feed in one more slide the last time and there wasn't one there at the time.)
I have to tell it to "Eject" a slide (really meaning feed one in) before it will
continue.
