Vuescan and Bulk loader with Coolscan 5000?

Very simple question here: How do I get the first slide started going
in the LS-210 bulk loader?

I've got the Coolscan 5000. Got Vuescan 8.4.58. Have successfully
scanned a dozen or so slides using the single slide adapter that comes
with the scanner. So next I want to get started using the LS-210 bulk
loader. When I run Vuescan, it won't scan unless there's a slide in the
scanner, and for the life of me, I can't see how to invoke (or maybe I
should say "provoke") the bulk feeder to stick the first slide in. I
know I'm probably missing something obvious: I rented a CS-4000 and
LS-200 about 5 years ago for a weekend and don't recall having this
problem. Seems like this is too simple a problem for me to yet find an
answer on the web!

It's driving me bats. Thanks in advance for any advice. I may need to
go get a beer to calm me down. I've set the scanner up to run on an old
Pismo (Mac) powerbook with a USB 2.0 Cardbus on OS 10.4.11.

I haven't used VS in a while much, but it's somewhere in the batch scan
options? A quick paste from Ed's site:

"Batch Scanning

To scan multiple images in a batch, set "Input|Batch scan" to "All" to scan
all frames in a device, or set it to "List" and type in the list of
frames (i.e. "4 3 1" for frames 4, 3 and 1, in that order)."
