Vuescan 8.3.7 for OS X anyone?

As far as I know the wayback machine archives only web *pages* (HTML and
possibly plain text) not (binary) downloads (I've tried that for other
software but never found a working link in an archived download page).

No, that's not always true. I managed to download software through the
wayback machine that used to be freeware in the past and which had gone
commercial at the time of download. I also downloaded some mp3 files
from archive.org.
Anyway, it seems that Hamrick.com hasn't been archived there since
December 2004. AFAIK a website owner can request archive.com to stop
archiving and that is perhaps what Ed did.

Thanks for that - I thought it was systematic; means I should at least
try if such a case occurs again.

Yes, you can request that - a simple metatag and the bot respects it.
I've actually done it with a beta site of mine.
