Just tried Vuescan 8.1.12 on my Scan Dual IV yesterday. It seems all
the problems we had before have been addressed.

How's other users' experiences?

I've seen several stories about this guy and his 'amazing camera' in the
past. I really don't understand what makes his work so special. As far as
I can tell, he's using a regular large format camera (which he admittedly
built himself), scanning the result at high resolution, then having Lightjet
(or some other process) prints made.

So again, what's so special? Is the lens he uses particularly
high-resolution? Has he built a special scanner for this project? What
does "slowly processed by hand" mean? He develops his own film? That would
be truly shocking indeed.

That's what I get for not paying attention when posting :)

A quick check here at my place shows that multi-sampling is fine
(again), and that also the faint color banding at mono-sampling has
gone away. This seems to indicate that the calibrating procedure is
OK.

On the other hand, the autofocus still doesn't work. A pity, because
that would make VS really useful for us, SD IV users.

Not sure what's causing you this problem since you said focusing works
well with Minolta software. But the auto focusing in Vuescan works well
for me, judging by my bare eyes (scanned at 3200dpi and viewed 1:1 on
screen).

Up till now I never had the autofocus working on my machine using
Vuescan. In an e-mail Ed H. wrote me several months ago that
autofocus should work - only it didn't. I sent him the pertinent data
in a problem report, but I never heard from him since.
As you say: since it does work with the Minolta sw, I still have
hopes that one day VS will be able to do it for me, too. How come it
works for you and not for me? Differing hardware that is taken care
of with the Minolta sw??

On the other hand, raw scans in version 8.1.13 cannot be processed
anymore with VS itself!! This is a new bug. Did you experience this
also?

I keep using version 8.1.12 and focussing manually. Images and colors
are fine!

It's really puzzling, but I never had problem focusing with Vuescan on
my SD4.

I read another post reporting the RAW problem so I haven't upgraded yet.
I'll stick to a working version until it comes out with some features
that I really want. :)

Always ask for a receipt confirmation when sending a problem report to
Ed Hamrick, especially when using his "support@" address. Otherwise he
may claim never having received your message.

He could easily ignore sending such a confirmation...

I don't mean that you use the electronic confirmation request in your
e-mail program (you can use that as well, but indeed he may ignore it)
but my suggestion is that you just include a phrase like "Please confirm
that you received this problem report" in the message body. For me, this
always works in case of Ed Hamrick.

Ah, I understand! Thanks.
