Hi,

I would like to disable/hide the 'Guide Me' button that Vuescan now
displays. Can anybody tell me how I can do this ?

Thanks,
Steven

I've disabled the green color for the "Guide me" button in
VueScan 8.1.2 (it was only green in the Windows and Linux versions).

You can download it from:

I've disabled the green color for the "Guide me" button in
VueScan 8.1.2 (it was only green in the Windows and Linux versions).

Using the standard colour for this new button does make it much less
offensive than before but surely there should be a way to hide it
completely. Perhaps you could add an option to the help menu to
show/hide this button.

As you are spending time on the user interface I would like to air my
criticisms with the operation of the option panels. Fixing these would
benefit both newbies and seasoned users.

a) Changing an option that causes other options to appear/disappear
results in a total redraw of the panel and both the scroll position and
keyboard focus point are lost. A much better approach here would be to
redraw only the portions above and below (as required) while leaving the
currently selected entry unchanged.

b) Entering a value into the film exposure box causes the input panel to
be redrawn (and scrolled, etc. as above) even though no options have
been added/deleted. This is an annoying and pointless response
particularly when the exposure box is scrolled off the display as it is
on mine (800x600).

Another annoying quirk of Vuescan is that trying to select a menu item
(e.g. File) using the keyboard causes Vuescan to hang (100% CPU) and all
I can do is kill it with Task Manager. This never occurs before the
first preview or scan but occurs often when I use the keyboard after a
scan. I am using NT4sp6a and an FS4000US.

If anybody would like to comment on my criticisms or can offer any clues
about the keyboard hang problem it will be appreciated.

I haven't experienced such behavior (VueScan 8.1.2 on a Win XP Pro
platform). Most 'hangs' are usually caused by interface/interrupt
issues, but that seems unrelated to the use of the keyboard if it only
happens in combination with VueScan.
