Does anyone else have problems using the setting Input|Bits per
pixel|8 bit Gray? When I use this setting, the images seem
"stretched" along one of the axes. If I just change only this setting
to 24 bit RGB, the problem disappers. I know I can still scan at 24
bit RGB and then save as a 8-bit grayscale file, but why have the
setting on the Input tab when it doesn't work?

I am using an HP S20 to scan with, if that makes a difference.

Thanks,
Bryan

That was what I reported to Ed some time ago. I don't remeber exact
version, but it was probably 8.0.9 too, as I'm stuck with it for a long time

Sorry, I pressed CTRL-Enter sooner than I finished the message :)

You can actually look at the snapshots that I made when studying the problem
here:

I eneded up with scanning in 48bit RGB and saving as 16bit gray.

Andy.

Thanks, Andy. I have been scanning in 24bit RGB and then just saving
the images as an 8-bit grayscale TIFF file. But I still think this is
a bug in Vuescan (albeit with a workaround).
