Vuescan 8.0.21 is very slow for me compared to earlier version.

I recently upgraded my Vuescan from 8.0.09 to 8.0.21 and am finding
scans have become excruciatingly slow. The scan itself is normal,
but the post processing where it stated "buffer..." and "color..."
take about 2 minutes each. Then, after writing the TIF file, it
repeatts the "color..." step again, just as slowly.

Is there something I'm missing, some new options I should be ticking,
or unticking? I'm using previously saved INI files. If a change was
made, could someone tell me in which version this occured, so that I
can go back and load that particular version?

Thanks,

Try setting all to defaults (in the file pulldown), then redo your
settings. A pain, but it may help. Also, you could start saving your
older versions, if you don't already.

I just upgraded from .20 to .22 (after my first post) and am noticing
similar slowdown. Not as bad as 2 minutes per (more like 20 sec, very
new pc), but definitely slower.

Have you also noticed it repeat the "color..." step once it has
written the TIFF file to disk? I have an older PC (667mgz) so things
go a bit slower on mine.

I visually checked over all of the options, and nothing appears out of
the ordinary.

Fortunately, I keep all the older versions, so I am able to go back.
I'll install .20 and see if there is a difference.

thanks,

Once or twice it seems to hang saying color at 107%, or something
similar. Also, changing any settings, say in the color tab, then doing
a refresh, is a lot slower. I've already gone back to a previous
version, 8.1.4, which worked for me, was quick, and stable. I really
just wanted to see if the cleaning was any better. Quite a few of the
new versions claim to have improved cleaning, but I saw ZERO difference
with .22 (as usual), and will continue to use ICE and my scanner
software for actual scanning, for the present.

I installed 8.0.20 and scanned a few negatives. Everything is much
faster. The "color..." step takes a few second, and after the TIFF
file is written, it appears again, but just for a fraction of a
second; normally I would never notice it. Maybe it is used for
refreshing the screen after the SCAN step.

I noticed that someone else is reporting the same problem on his/her
Scan Dual IV (I am using a Scan Dual II) and version 8.0.22. So it
appears there is a problem.

Hopefully Ed is reading this and has a fix planned!

You called that an "upgrade"?

Not Don, but same mindset, only more cowardly, never posting a name, but
the Isp is a give_away, att.net.
