VPNs

I was wondering how workgroups work with use of VPNs.
When browsing the Network neighborhood, will PCs in a
remote office be visible?

Browsing across subnets/routed connections requires that something be able
to handle the NetBIOS names/traffic...if you were on a domain with a WINS
server, you could likely specify the WINS server name in your own IP config
and have a shot at it...but otherwise, doubtful, unless your VPN client
supports the passthrough of NetBIOS traffic.

Jason,
I don't think it would work at all with a workgroup because in addition to
everything else required, browsing across subnets also requires a Master
Domain Browser,..and there is no DC that the workgroup would recognise
because they aren't on the domain.

Local LMHost files may help, but that would seem pretty miserable to
maintain to me.

Naming will still work, but you just have to type it in. Typing
\\somemachine\someshare from the Run line or DOS Window will bring up that
machine in a regular Explorer Window. Once that is done a shortcut to that
machine and be created on the Desktop to get to it more easily. You could
also simply create a shortcut directly and just use the network path as the
path for the shortcut.

As far as VPN, it really doesn't matter if it is VPN or a "hard-cable", you
are still going across subnets with a workgroup and that is what really
matters.

Sorry, I just stuck it under the wrong header, that's all. I was replying
to the part he said, not the part you said :-)
