I have a fast cable internet connection, but when I
connect to a site using a PPTP VPN connection all internet
browsing is routed via the VPN connection, which is much
slower.

I want to use the VPN only to access the remote network's
subnet and use my cable connection to access the Internet.

Does anyone know how to do this?

On the VPN connection properties, go to TCPIP Properties, then Advanced and
uncheck the box labeled "Use Default Gateway on Remote Network.

Un-check "Use remote gateway on remote network" in the VPN
connection's TCP/IP properties (Advanced).
