I am trying to set up a VPN so I can access my home
network while travelling (via dial up, e.g. AOL). I have
cable internet service through Adelphia at home. I have a
Linksys VPN router. I need help on setting up the VPN. I
am a novice at this. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks.

For VPN help look at these links...

Hopefully someone else has direct experience setting up a Linksys VPN router, other than the BEFSR41
which I used in the past...If you have the BEFSX41 I presume you have looked at the manual?

Normally, if your behind a firewall/NAT/router you will need to forward/open TCP Port 1723 and pass
GRE Protocol 47 traffic for PPTP VPN. The Linksys devices call this "PPTP Pass Through".

You need to configure the router (default IP is
192.168.1.1) (default password is admin) to forward the
VPN inbound to the server:

Advanced
Forwarding
Ext. Port Protocol IP Address Enable
1701 to 1701 TCP Server IP check mark
1723 to 1723 TCP Server IP check mark

Save settings

Good Luck, Matt

I'd recommend following Linksys' instructions, or calling their support
staff.

In your case, the router itself terminates the VPN tunnel, so the advice by
the other respondents isn't exactly what you need--you don't need to allow
VPN through the router, you need help configuring a client to connect TO the
router.
