Hi, can anyone point me to an URL which has a basic
tutorial detailing everything about setting up a VPN.

Basically i want to be able to access my friends computer
as if it was mine. We both have broadband.

If your behind a firewall/NAT/router make sure TCP Port 1723 is opened and GRE Protocol 47 traffic
is enabled. Some firewall/NAT/router devices call this "PPTP Pass Through" or "VPN Pass Through".
