We are setting up DNS tonight on W2K servers. We do not have AD we are on a NT 4.0 network. We have some remote users who use DSL and one uses Cable modem in conjunction with VPN. Does anyone know if I have to make any special considerations for these users? Or can I just change the client config like I would for in-house users and point them to DNS servers and Forward to ISP? Thanks

Well, if they are remote users, they're probably already configured wtih
their ISP DNS at their location. As for the IP and config they get when they
VPN in, it's best to use the internal DNS and WINS server. Since internal
DNS is not critical if still on an NT4 domain, I would still use the
internal DNS in preparation for your eventual migration to AD. Keep in mind,
however, if eventually using AD, it's probably a better bet to have a HOSTS
file on their local machines with info on how to initially get to the
internal DC when authentication. May also be a good suggestion to use a
local LMHOSTS file on their machine to locate the NT4 DCs.
